Authorities have arrested a Parma man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of an elderly woman in Summit County on Tuesday night.

Joseph Zolnowski, 35, turned himself in following the incident, according to a statement released Wednesday evening by Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree. Zolnowski faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of a crash, with additional charges still under investigation.

The fatal collision occurred around 8 p.m. in the 9200 block of Olde Eight Road in Northfield Center Township. The victim, an 84-year-old woman from Boston Heights, was struck by a vehicle believed to be a late-model blue Ford Explorer, the sheriff’s office reported. Officials believe Zolnowski was the sole occupant of the vehicle involved.

Bystanders at the scene provided first aid to the woman before she was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Investigators continue to piece together details of the crash.
