The Stark County Humane Society has announced that Enzo, the Belgian Malinois at the center of a criminal investigation, has been found safe.
According to a statement from the Humane Society, Enzo’s safe recovery was made possible through efforts by the Stark County Humane Society’s Animal Investigator, the Stark County Sheriff’s Department, the Canton Police Department, and tips from the community.
The case remains an active criminal investigation, and officials have not released further details at this time.
Enzo was brought to the Stark County Humane Society as a stray on Friday, Dec. 27, without tags or a microchip. The following day, two men allegedly provided false identification to claim the dog, sparking an investigation. Authorities later determined the men were not the dog’s rightful owners, and reports suggested the case might be linked to a recurring scam in the region involving fraudulent claims of stray dogs from shelters.
The Stark County Humane Society is continuing to work with law enforcement, including the Stark County Sheriff’s Department and the Canton Police Department, to investigate the incident.
The organization thanked the community for its help and reiterated its commitment to holding those responsible accountable.
