Authorities have successfully recovered a Belgian Malinois that was fraudulently claimed from the Stark County Humane Society last weekend. The dog, named Enzo, has been safely returned to its rightful owner after being evaluated, registered, and microchipped.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office has identified 25-year-old Devon Jovel Williams as the individual who fraudulently claimed the dog. A warrant has been issued for Williams’ arrest on charges of Falsification in a Theft Offense (F5) and Theft (F5).

The incident began on Friday, Dec. 27, when the dog was brought into the shelter as a stray with no tags or microchip. The next morning, two men arrived at the shelter, presenting identification and claiming the dog. Staff photographed the dog before it was handed over. However, an investigation later revealed the men were not the rightful owners and had given the dog to another individual claiming to be its owner.

On Monday, Dec. 30, Stark County Sheriff’s Deputies located and recovered Enzo. After being evaluated by the Stark County Dog Warden’s Office, Enzo was safely reunited with his rightful family.

The Stark County Humane Society acknowledged the successful collaboration between their animal investigator, the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, and the Canton Police Department. They also expressed gratitude to the community for tips shared via social media, which helped in resolving the case.

Authorities are still searching for Devon Williams. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Stark County Sheriff’s Office at 330-430-3800.

The Humane Society has noted concerns over a potential scam involving individuals fraudulently claiming stray dogs and is urging shelters and the public to remain vigilant.

This remains an ongoing investigation, and no further details are available at this time.
