A man found dead along a rural road in Carroll County has been identified, and authorities say he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said highway workers discovered the body wrapped in a tarp along Cashmere Road near Scio at 9:54 a.m. on Feb. 7. Deputies responded to the scene along with Carroll County Coroner Dr. Mandal B. Haas, Carroll County Prosecutor Steven Barnett, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) agents, and members of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
Dr. Haas confirmed the victim, a 30-year-old man, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He stated he does not believe the wound was self-inflicted. The coroner is withholding the man’s identity as authorities work to notify his family.
The body, which had distinct tattoos on both arms, was transported to the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office for further examination.
Authorities have ruled out any connection to Travis Below, a missing person previously reported in the area.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
