Village officials have decided to keep the local police department despite recent staffing shortages, including the resignation of the police chief.
Newcomerstown leaders had considered contracting law enforcement services through the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office but opted against the move following input from residents at Monday night’s council meeting.
While the village will maintain its police force, the sheriff’s office is expected to provide assistance as needed during the transition. Officials cited the community’s growth as a factor in their decision to retain local law enforcement.
