A Jackson Township man is behind bars after allegedly holding a victim hostage during a domestic incident Thursday night, prompting a three-hour standoff with police.
Officers with the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a home in the 8900 block of Scotsbury Street NW around 7:30 p.m. for a reported domestic situation. Upon arrival, officers learned a man had taken a victim hostage and barricaded himself inside a bedroom.
Police secured the scene and called in negotiators and the Canton Regional SWAT Cooperative. After about three hours of negotiations, the victim was released unharmed, and the suspect later surrendered without incident.
Brent J. Mollet, 44, was arrested and booked into the Stark County Jail. He is facing charges of kidnapping (a second-degree felony), disrupting public service (a fourth-degree felony), and domestic violence (a fourth-degree misdemeanor).
Authorities thanked the Jackson Township Fire Department and the Canton Regional SWAT Cooperative for their assistance in safely resolving the incident.
