The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred Tuesday evening in Tuscarawas County.
According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 5:08 p.m. on April 1 in a farm field in Mill Township. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1973 Cessna 310Q, a fixed-wing multi-engine aircraft, went down shortly after taking off from Harry Clever Field Airport in New Philadelphia at 4:40 p.m.
The identity of the pilot — the only person aboard — has not been released yet. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been notified and will conduct independent investigations into the incident.
Emergency crews from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, New Philadelphia Fire Department, Warwick Township Fire Department and the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and assisted the Highway Patrol.
