A Canton man was shot and killed early Monday morning in what police say was a domestic dispute in Barberton.
Barberton police responded to reports of gunfire around 1:24 a.m. near East Paige Avenue and 3rd Street NE, where officers found 25-year-old Nathan M. Flight lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he later died from his injuries.
Police arrested the suspected shooter, Justice J. Oney, 24, of Barberton, a short distance from the scene. Officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle Oney was in. Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute involving Flight, Oney, and Oney’s wife.
Oney was taken to the Barberton City Jail and charged with murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Barberton Municipal Court at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 15.
The Barberton Police Department Detective Bureau and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are continuing to investigate.
